Delete your Sortd account
Last updated: 15 August 2026
Sortd lets you delete your account whenever you choose. This page explains what deletion does, what is removed, what may be kept for a short time, and how to do it inside the app.
Before you start, we recommend exporting a copy of your data if you want to keep it, because deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
What deleting your account does
Deleting your account permanently removes your Sortd account and the personal data associated with it. Your profile, your sign-in identifiers, and the spending information you brought to Sortd are erased from active systems.
This is different from signing out or removing the app from your phone. Signing out or uninstalling leaves your account and data in place. Deletion ends your relationship with Sortd and cannot be reversed.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted, Sortd removes the data tied to it. This includes:
- Transactions and their details, including merchant names, amounts, currencies, notes, and tags.
- Budgets, savings goals, debts and installments, and family-support commitments.
- Captured content you provided, such as bank message text, receipt images, and voice notes.
- The accounts and cards you added, including their labels and last four digits.
- Your settings and preferences, including any Bring-Your-Own-Key API keys you saved.
- Account data such as your email address and sign-in identifiers, including any social sign-in.
What may be retained for a limited time and why
In limited cases, Sortd may keep certain records for a short period after deletion:
- Information needed to meet legal obligations or to prevent fraud and abuse, kept only for as long as required.
- Anonymized or aggregate data that no longer identifies you and cannot be linked back to you.
Retained records are held only for these purposes. They are not used to rebuild your account, and the anonymized or aggregate data can no longer be connected to you.
Before you delete
If you want a copy of your information, export it before you delete. Sortd lets you export all of your data as a JSON file at any time from inside the app, so you keep a full record even after your account is gone.
How to delete your account in the app
You can delete your account directly from the app in a few steps:
- Open the Sortd app on your phone.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Account.
- Choose Delete account.
- Review the in-app preview of what you will lose.
- Confirm to start the deletion.
If you cannot access the app
If you can no longer open the app, you can still ask Sortd to delete your account. Email privacy@thesortd.com or support@thesortd.com from the email address on your account so we can verify the request and process it. Sending from your account email helps us confirm the request is really yours.
How long deletion takes
Deletion is processed promptly after you confirm. Your account and the data tied to it are removed from active systems right away. Any residual copies that remain in routine backups are purged as those backups cycle in the normal course, and they are never used to restore your account.
Deleting only some of your data instead
If you do not want to close your whole account, you have other options. To remove specific information rather than everything, see the Request deletion of your data page. To correct or clear individual entries, you can edit and delete transactions and other items directly in the app, and your account stays open.
