Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 15 August 2026
These Terms and Conditions govern your use of Sortd, a personal spending tracking and smart analytics app for the MENA region. Sortd is a product of MENTECH, a company established in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Please read these Terms carefully. Sortd is a tool that records and analyzes information you choose to provide. It is not a bank, payment provider, e-wallet, money-transfer service, lender, or any other financial service, and it never accesses your accounts or moves money.
By creating an account or using Sortd, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms and Conditions (the "Terms") form a binding agreement between you and MENTECH ("MENTECH", "Sortd", "we", "us", or "our"), the company that operates the Sortd app and the website thesortd.com (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Who can use Sortd
Sortd is designed for adults. To use the Service, you must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your country if that age is higher.
The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the required age. If you are below that age, please do not use Sortd. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child, we will delete it.
By using the Service, you confirm that you are legally able to enter into a binding agreement and that you are not barred from using the Service under any applicable law.
3. Your account and your responsibilities
To use most features, you create an account using your email address or a supported social sign-in. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activity that happens under it.
- Provide accurate account information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your sign-in credentials confidential and do not share your account with others.
- You are responsible for the activity that occurs under your account.
- Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
- You may enable the optional biometric app lock for an added layer of protection on your device.
The biometric app lock is optional and is handled by your device operating system. The biometric data stays on your device, and Sortd does not receive it.
4. What Sortd is and how it works
Sortd is a spending tracking and analytics tool. It records and analyzes only the information you choose to provide, and it turns that information into tracking and insights that help you understand your own spending.
How you add information
- Bank message text (SMS or push notifications you provide, or that flow in through an iOS Shortcuts automation you set up).
- Receipt photos.
- Voice notes.
- File imports (CSV or Excel).
- Manual entry.
Sortd does not connect to your bank or any financial account, does not access or log in to any account, and never asks for or stores bank login credentials. It reads financial signals that you already have and choose to share. Sortd never holds, sends, receives, transfers, or provides money or any financial asset.
Sortd is confirmation-first. Message processing is tiered: deterministic pattern matching and learned templates run first, and AI extraction is used only for unrecognized formats as a premium capability. Nothing is recorded as a transaction until you review and confirm it.
5. AI features and their limitations
Sortd offers AI features, referred to as "Sortd AI". Sortd AI uses third-party AI providers managed by Sortd. You may also Bring Your Own Key for OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
When an AI feature runs, the relevant content is sent to the applicable AI provider to be processed and returned. Depending on the feature, this may include a bank message, receipt text, a voice transcript, or a question together with figures computed on Sortd servers. If you use your own key, the content goes to the provider you selected under your own agreement with them.
Sortd AI is confirmation-first. It proposes drafts and never books, edits, or deletes a transaction on its own. Chat answers are grounded in your own data and computed on the server, and the model phrases numbers rather than inventing them.
6. Your data and content
You own your financial data and the content you add to Sortd, including transactions, merchant names, amounts, account and card labels, notes, tags, budgets, savings goals, and the raw content you capture such as bank message text, receipt images, and voice audio.
To operate the Service for you, you grant Sortd a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, transmit, and display your content, only to the extent needed to provide the Service to you. This licence exists solely so that Sortd can deliver the features you use, and it ends when you delete the relevant content or your account, except where we are required by law to retain certain information for a limited period.
Your controls
- Export all of your data as JSON at any time.
- Delete your account, with an in-app preview of what will be removed.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Edit and confirm every transaction, so nothing is recorded without you.
7. Acceptable use
You agree to use Sortd lawfully and responsibly. In particular, you agree that you will not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
- Misuse the Service or interfere with its normal operation, including introducing malware or overloading our systems.
- Attempt to break, probe, or bypass the security of the Service, or access data that is not yours.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, or attempt to extract its source code, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
- Upload or process another person's data without the authority to do so.
- Infringe the intellectual property or other rights of Sortd or any third party.
- Use bots, scrapers, or automated means to access the Service in a way that is not permitted, or resell or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties to function, including third-party AI providers, the Apple App Store and Google Play, and infrastructure, hosting, and cloud storage providers used to run the Service.
These third parties have their own terms and privacy practices, which apply to your use of their services. We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, or content of third-party services, and their availability is outside our control.
If you choose Bring Your Own Key, your use of that AI provider is governed by your own agreement with the provider, and any charges from the provider are your responsibility.
10. Not financial advice and not a financial service
Sortd is a spending tracking and analytics tool. It is not a bank, payment provider, e-wallet, money-transfer service, lender, or any other financial service, and it is not a regulated financial service.
Sortd does not access, connect to, or log in to your accounts, and it does not hold, send, receive, transfer, or provide money or any financial asset. It works only on the data you provide to it.
Sortd provides informational tools and insights only. It does not provide investment, tax, legal, or other professional advice. Any figures, categories, or insights are for your information, and you should consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.
11. Intellectual property
Sortd, including the app, the website, the software, the "Sortd" name and logos, and all related content and design, is owned by MENTECH or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right in our brand or content beyond the limited use described here.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own personal, non-commercial use, in line with these Terms.
Your data remains yours. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your financial data or content to Sortd.
12. Disclaimers and no warranty
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that AI extraction or any AI output is accurate or complete, that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any defects will be corrected. The tracking, balances, and analytics that Sortd produces depend on the data you provide, and their accuracy depends on the accuracy and completeness of that data.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Sortd and MENTECH will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or a nominal amount where no payment was made.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
14. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account from within the app, and you will see an in-app preview of what will be removed before you confirm.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, if you breach these Terms, use the Service unlawfully, or create a risk or possible harm to the Service or to other users. Where reasonable and lawful, we will give you notice.
15. Changes to the service and to these terms
We are continually improving Sortd, and we may add, change, or remove features from time to time. We may also discontinue the Service or parts of it, and we will try to give reasonable notice where we can.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated Terms with a new "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice, such as a message in the app.
Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect means that you accept the changes. If you do not agree, you should stop using the Service and may delete your account.
16. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Service are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The competent courts of the Arab Republic of Egypt have jurisdiction to settle any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service.
Before starting any formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us so that we can try to resolve the matter informally and in good faith.
